ICEsoft Names Rod Charko Vice President
Marketing and Steve Maryka Chief Technology Officer CALGARY, Alberta – February 2, 2004 – ICEsoft Technologies Inc., the world’s leading provider of Java browser and Java Web access software, today announced the appointments of Rod Charko as vice president of marketing and Steve Maryka as chief technology officer. Both positions report directly to Brian McKinney, president and CEO. As vice president of marketing, Charko will focus on further strengthening the company’s leadership position by overseeing the company’s corporate marketing, business planning and strategic growth initiatives. A seasoned and successful entrepreneur, Charko has extensive prior experience in marketing operations, capital investment and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining ICEsoft, he was an investment director with BDC Venture Capital, a $500M early stage Venture Capital fund with investments in ICEsoft. At the BDC, he participated in over $100M in seed and venture capital financings in the high tech sector. Prior to the BDC Charko was director of marketing and product management at MetroNet Communications where he managed the development and roll-out of data services from MetroNet’s start up phase through IPO in 1997 and ultimately to acquisition by AT&T in 1999. Charko holds a masters degree in business administration from the University of Western Ontario, as well as a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering. Steve Maryka spearheads ICEsoft’s technology and product
vision, which he is directing toward a service-oriented architecture.
With Brian McKinney, Maryka co-founded AudeSi Technologies (Calgary,
Alberta) and served as its vice president of technology, where he
led Java tool development for Internet appliances. After AudeSi
was acquired by embedded software powerhouse Wind River, Maryka
was a principle technologist there, working on embedded Java, device
management, and high availability technologies. Prior to AudeSi,
Steve was president of Jade Solutions (Calgary, Alberta), which
developed software products for the modeling, and simulation of
telecommunications networks. During his time at Jade, Steve engaged
with Nortel Networks as the chief software architect for the world's
first commercial embedded Java telephone. Steve holds a Bachelor
of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University
of Victoria (Victoria, British Columbia).
