ICEsoft’s ICEreader Integrated into Electro-Motive’s IntelliTrain
Next-generation locomotive diagnostic system incorporates the leading Java browser SDK

CALGARY, Alberta — March 21, 2005 — ICEsoft Technologies Inc., the leading provider of Java browser and Java Web access software, today announced that Electro-Motive (EMD) has incorporated ICEreader® SDK into its IntelliTrain Web application.

Railroads can significantly improve asset utilization by monitoring operating parameters such as locomotive location, engine performance and the status of all cars. EMD’s IntelliTrain service provides an unprecedented amount of real-time operating data from 200-ton locomotives. The system allows technicians to diagnose and isolate defective components, off-line or in real-time, using wireless monitoring and communications features. With IntelliTrain, technicians can better manage their rolling stock and proactively take locomotives off line for maintenance.

As part of this remote monitoring system, EMD developed a powerful computer-based, artificial intelligence diagnostics tool called TechPro.  This sophisticated maintenance-level tool can be used in the locomotive shop or on the service track to diagnose problems and identify the parts and services required to put locomotives back in service.  TechPro allows technicians to remotely diagnose problems on locomotives thousands of miles away.

 ICEreader SDK provided TechPro with the ability to render across a range of client platforms and maintenance sites. ICEsoft SDK’s extensive API allowed EMD to closely integrate with a disparate range of TechPro and third party applications, such as CRM systems and maintenance data bases. And unlike competing products, ICEreader is 100 percent Java compliant, greatly increasing the multi-site compatibility and performance.

When a fault code is entered, TechPro automatically links to the IntelliTrain database.  TechPro presents the user with a series of questions and then provides the possible causes of the fault.  Based on the answers to further questions, TechPro quickly zeros in on the most probable cause. TechPro has become a very powerful diagnostics tool in the IntelliTrain process and ICEreader is central to TechPro’s rendering capability.
