Limitations

Browser Navigation Control

The Win32 Active-X Flash Player that the Flash pilot uses to render Flash content is designed to work with Microsoft Internet Explorer and it is not possible to support some browser navigation and control mechanisms commonly used in Flash content available on the internet.

For example, viewing a news article at http://news.yahoo.com/ that contains a Flash advertisement displays the Flash content correctly. However, clicking on the advertisement does not navigate the ICEbrowser to the advertiser's site but may instead attempt to launch the site using Internet Explorer. For this reason, the Flash pilot may be best suited to applications where the Flash content can be controlled and any required browser navigation control can be implemented via the supported FSCommand mechanism.

Lightweight Toolkit Support

This pilot is a heavyweight component and always renders on top of any lightweight components, such as Swing JComponents and JPanels. To use this pilot in a Swing toolkit application, take precautions to avoid having the Flash content render on top of other lightweight components. To prevent the Flash content from rendering outside the bounds of the ICEbrowser viewport, set the ICEbrowser heavyweight mode system property ice.pilots.html4.swing.heavy to "true".
